CHICAGO – To culminate the League’s Silver Anniversary season, one final list has been voted on by the AFL’s Silver Anniversary Committee: the 25 Greatest Teams in AFL History.
The Committee, which consists of longtime League executives, coaches, media members and former players, deliberated on which teams were represented the best of the best over the last 25 seasons.
In the Silver Anniversary Committee’s vote, the 1999 Albany Firebirds were named the Greatest Team in AFL History. Led by Coach of the Year Mike Dailey and Offensive Player of the Year Eddie Brown, the Firebirds finished the 1999 season 11-3 and defeated the Orlando Predators, 59-48, in ArenaBowl XIII.
Also cracking the Top 5 were the 2008 Philadelphia Soul, 2004 San Jose SaberCats, 1997 Arizona Rattlers and 2005 Colorado Crush. The 2002 San Jose SaberCats, who came in at the top spot in 2006, came in at number six.
