Gladiators Snap Five-Game Losing Streak With 69-32 Win over Milwaukee

 Defense and Special Teams score four touchdowns in the win

CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Gladiators snapped a five-game losing streak and keep their playoff hopes alive, with a 69-32 victory over the Milwaukee Mustangs in front of 7,853 at Quicken Loans Arena on Friday night. The Gladiators improve to 7-6 while the Mustangs fall to 5-9.

Defense and special teams proved to be the story of the night as both combined for four touchdowns on the night. Maurice Williams started things with a 50-yard interception return in the first quarter, while Brian Brikowski returned a fumble on the ensuing kickoff. Joe Phinisee recovered a fumble for a touchdown in the second quarter and Levy Brown added a 12-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

The Gladiators led by as many as 44 in the game at 69-25 late in the fourth quarter. Milwaukee scored a late touchdown, closing the scoring for the night.

Offensively, John Dutton completed 14-of-20 passes for 158 yards and four touchdowns. He was not intercepted. Dominick Goodman and Carlese Franklin were the recipient of all of Dutton’s passes, catching nine and five, respectively. Both scored twice. Jeramie Richardson scored once on the ground and Matt Bassuener, in relief duty of Dutton, carried the ball once for 13 yards and a touchdown.

The Gladiators travel to the Sunshine State next week for a matchup with the Orlando Predators. Kickoff is set 7:30 pm from the AMWAY Center.
