Sharks acquire OL Ailao Eliapo
Wednesday April 25, 2012
Former Orlando Predator traded in exchange for QB Chris Leak
The 23-year-old Eliapo started four of the Predators' first six games in 2012, working primarily at fullback. Used mainly as a blocker, Eliapo did carry the ball five times for 12 yards as a member of the Predators. Eliapo began his Arena Football League career with the San Jose SaberCats in 2011, starting five of the team’s final six games along the offensive line. Eliapo caught two passes for 39 yards in his time with San Jose.
Before turning pro, Eliapo played at San Jose State, where he began his career as a defensive lineman before moving to the offensive side of the ball as a sophomore in 2008. He was a three-year starter on the Spartans’ offensive line, finishing his college career in 2010. Eliapo is a native of Burlingame, CA and played at South San Francisco High School.
Leak started the Sharks’ season opener in Kansas City in place of an injured Omar Jacobs, completing 21 of 31 passes for 196 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. He was placed on team suspension following that game and did not appear in any of the Sharks’ last five games.
The Sharks also announced Wednesday that WR Jeron Harvey has been placed on injured reserve.
