Sippio, Coleman and Green earn Week 13 honors

TULSA, OKLA. – Orlando WR BOBBY SIPPIO, Orlando DB TRAVIS COLEMAN and New Orleans WR SKYLER GREEN have been named Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week, Riddell Defensive Player of the Week and JLS Ironman of the Week, respectively, for Week 13 of the 2011 AFL season. In addition to these three awards, the AFL is also awarding the best catch of the week, the playmaker of the week and the highlight of the week. The Cutters Catch of the Week award winner for Week 13 is WR/DB JERON HARVEY of the Jacksonville Sharks, while the NiFTy Playmaker of the Week is Chicago WR/DB VIC HALL. The Spalding Highlight of the Week award winner is Philadelphia’s WR DONOVAN MORGAN.
RUSSELL ATHLETIC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sippio (6-3, 215, Western Kentucky) tallied nine catches for 124-yards and six touchdowns in the Predators’ victory, 77-61, over the Iowa Barnstormers. In nine games, Sippio has totaled 66 receptions for 815-yards and 20 touchdowns. Sioppio is averaging 90.6 receiving yards per game.
RIDDELL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Coleman (6-0, 190, Hampton) registered four tackles, three interceptions and two pass breakups in Orlando’s Week 13 victory over the Iowa Barnstormers, 77-61. Rogers ranks second on the Predators’ in tackles (67.5) and interceptions (7).
JLS IRONMAN OF THE WEEK
Green (5-19, 195, LSU) opened up the third quarter against the Jacksonville Sharks with a 42-yard reception for a touchdown on NFL Network “Arena Football Friday.” Green tallied eight receptions for 132-yards and four touchdowns for the VooDoo. In a losing cause, 55-62, Green finished the game with 221 all-purpose yards.
CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK
Harvey (6-5, 220, Houston) trapped an Aaron Garcia touchdown pass as it rolled down the boards in the end zone on Friday night. The Sharks defeated the VooDoo, 62-55.
NIFTY PLAYMAKER OF THE WEEK
Hall (5-11, 190, Virginia) posted 10.5 tackles, three interceptions for 61-yards and four breakups in Chicago’s, 58-30, win against Kansas City. Hall stands atop the AFL in tackles (93) and interceptions (14). His interception total etched his name in the AFL record books as he set an AFL single season record of 14 interceptions.
SPALDING HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK
Morgan (6-3, 225, Pearl River C.C) made an acrobatic grab in the back of the end zone as the game clock expired giving the Soul a 39-37 victory over the Milwaukee Mustangs on Friday night. Morgan notched seven receptions for 110-yards and three touchdowns in the victory.
Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Pittsburgh’s Bernard Morris, Philadelphia’s Donovan Morgan, Jacksonville’s Aaron Garcia, Orlando’s Bobby Sippio, Kansas City’s Brian Umstead, Georgia’s Maurice Purify, Dallas’ Derrick Ross and Arizona’s Rod Windsor.
Riddell Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Dallas’ Chris Brown, Philadelphia’s Brandon Perkins, Tampa Bay’s Michael Hawthorne, Orlando’s Travis Coleman, Pittsburgh’s Carlos Campbell, Arizona’s Virgil Gray, Chicago’s Vic Hall and Jacksonville’s Micheaux Robinson.
JLS Ironman of the Week candidates included: Georgia’s Maurice Purify, Philadelphia’s Larry Brackins, Jacksonville’s Jeff Hughley, San Jose’s Mervin Brookins, Utah’s Chris Bocage, Kansas City’s Bradly Chavez, Iowa’s Rodney Filer and Cleveland’s Robert Redd.
The Arena Football League is also awarding the National Guard MVP of the Week, where fans are given the opportunity to select the winner on Facebook and ArenaFootball.com. Candidates include Orlando QB NICK HILL, Chicago WR/DB VIC HALL and New Orleans WR SKYLER GREEN. The winner will be announced on Thursday, June 9, 2011.
