Valor Recap: Valor Lose Battle In Albany
After leading through early in the second quarter, the Valor struggled to get much going on offense. Albany and their defense continue to live up to how they look on paper. The pass rush kept Washington quarterback Warren Smith Jr. under pressure the entire night. Smith Jr. completed 19-of-33 passes for 151 yards and three touchdowns, he was also intercepted twice.
Wide receiver Rod Windsor caught two of those touchdowns on nine receptions and 79 yards, he was voted Offensive Player of the Game. Reggie Gray also snagged a touchdown and two point conversion in the final minutes of the game. Going into tonight, defensive back Nic Addison led the team in tackles, he stood out on defense with three tackles and one interception, bringing him to 14.5 tackles on the year. The 23 points scored is a franchise record for the fewest points scored in a game by the Valor.
After a sloppy second quarter, the Empire were firing on all cylinders after halftime. Quarterback Tommy Grady completed 20-of-29 passes for five touchdowns and 221 yards, he was also voted MVP of the Game. Wide receiver Joe Hills was at it again with another multi-score game, three touchdowns on seven receptions and 85 yards, he has now scored a touchdown in 83 consecutive games. Grady wasn't afraid to spread the ball around either, wide receivers Malachi Jones and Collin Taylor also had a score each.
Defensive back Marrio Norman picked off Warren Smith Jr. twice in the second half, one was returned for a touchdown. With his additional nine tackles, he was voted Defensive Player of the Game. This is Norman's fourth career game with two or more interceptions. Albany picked up their first franchise win and will be in the nation's capital next weekend as they visit the Washington Valor.
The Valor return to DC for their home opener next weekend inside of Capital One Arena on Friday, May 11th at 7:00 p.m.
