The Steeldogs have made roster changes to help their defense. Terrence Harris returns to the team. Harris was a defensive specialist for the Steeldogs from 2001 to 2004. The Steeldogs are hopeful that bringing Harris in will help the defense.
The Steeldogs have named Andrew Zow the starting quarterback this week. Zow completed 20-of-36 passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns last week against the Macon Knights. Zow will have plenty of talented targets to throw to with OS Detronn Harris and wide receivers Devlon Holmes, Dre Fulgham, and Milas Randle.
This is the first time the Steeldogs have started 0-2 and to keep from going 0-3 the Steeldogs will have to limit the penalties. The Steeldogs are averaging 9.5 penalties for 58 per game. Oddly enough the Xplorers are averaging 12 penalties for 82 yards per game. The Steeldogs need to take advantage of this. The biggest area of concern is turnovers. The Steeldogs are second to last in turnover margin at -4. The Xplorers lead the league in this stat at +9. If the Steeldogs can protect the ball they have a chance to beat the Steeldogs. If they turn the ball over the Memphis offense will take advantage.
