And then there were eight.
The San Jose SaberCats floated around without an owner for a month or so, but they likely won't be continuing in the Arena Football League or playing in a lower level of indoor football next season. The team put out a bit of a cryptic press release to the effect on Thursday afternoon.
The timing of the release isn't surprising. Sources have confirmed to ArenaFan that the schedule for the 2016 season will be released "soon," likely as quickly as this evening.
Further announcements for Washington D.C., Sacramento, San Antonio and the three teams in Mexico for the 2017 season are expected in the near future as well, though no formal date has been set for those announcements.
UPDATE 7:45 PM - The 2016 schedule release was delayed until at least Friday according to sources close to the situation.
