The Arena Football League is about to have its seventh commissioner. On Tuesday, the AFL announced that Kurz has been appointed as the first-ever League President, which will open the door for a new commissioner to be named within the next few days, sources tell ArenaFan.com.
Sources have confirmed to ArenaFan that Kurz's reassignment was imminent over the course of much of the 2014 season.
Kurz was the founding commissioner of the AF1, the new league which was created after the assets of the bankrupted Arena Football League were purchased. The league rebranded back into the Arena Football League once again, and Kurz has held the post of the commissioner since that point.
Kurz was the sixth commissioner in AFL history, and the third longest tenured behind C. David Baker (13 years) and Jim Foster (six years).
