Cats not resting on laurels

The South Georgia Wildcats will welcome the Alabama Steeldogs in a divisional matchup with playoff implications for both teams. South Georgia is jockeying for a South Division title and Alabama is in a win or go home scenario.

The Wildcats enter Saturday’s contest with the second best passing offense in the league, racking up an average of 288.9 yards per game through the air. South Georgia is led by quarterback D. Bryant, who is ranked second in the af2 for both average passing yards per game (282.7) and total offense per game (286.4).

“We saw how big of a weapon Bryant can be when we played them earlier this year,” Alabama Steeldogs head coach Ron Selesky said. “We’re going to have to get him out of his rhythm early and often if we want to have a chance.”

South Georgia though may be without several starters for Saturday's game.

Receiver Scott Cloman and linebacker Jason Null will not play this week due to injuries.

Even though nose guard Joe Wooldridge is back at practice, head coach Derek Stingley says the coaching staff may hold Woolridge out for a fourth straight game to make sure he is ready to when the playoffs begin.

In a move to bolster a depleted line the Wildcats Thursday signed lineman Joe Clark.

Clark was on the practice squad this season for the Georgia Force and became available when the Force was beaten in the AFL playoffs last week.

‘This game is a little personal and we want it,” said Derek Stingley. “We are in the playoffs and I am more concerned with winning every game in the playoffs. It would be great for us to win out and us have the division championship. But would it do to win the division championship and not win the whole championship.”

The Alabama Steeldogs have won four straight over South Georgia.

In addition to the game, the Wildcats will have a Tailgate Pre-Game show that will kick-off at 4:30 featuring a live band and a performance by the South Georgia Marching Wildcats Band.  There will also be events for the children highlighted by two “Jumping Castles” blow-up games.

The Wildcat’s Post-Game Fan Appreciation Party will begin at 10:00 PM after the ballgame at the lot behind Harvest Moon on Broad Avenue with the Bo Henry Band performing.  Admissions to the pre and post game shows are free to everyone.
