An Inside Look: Spokane Shock Dance Team
Shawn and Lori Mosqueda
Thursday June 29, 2006
Seattle Seahawk Seagal and director of the Shock Dance team, Sabrina Chaudhry, informed me that it was no easy feat for the girls to make the team. There were 77 girls, ages 18 and over, that auditioned. From those 77 girls, only 14 made the cut.
Being selected was the easy part, as the girls just had three short weeks to get used to dancing with each other and learn at least two routines for the first home game of the season. Obviously teamwork is not an issue for this dance team as there was no evidence of a rushed routine. The gals came out and performed wonderfully and immediately won the adoration of the Spokane fans.
In addition to being present at all home games, the members of the dance team are also required to attend various publicity functions throughout the week. They also practice between six and ten hours a week. The Spokane fans have been pleased that the members are also present for the post-game autograph session at each of the home games. It is busy for the members, but as their director told me, when you are passionate about something, you find a way to work it into your schedule.
When speaking with Sabrina Chaudry I just had to ask her who was better: Cheering for the NFL or cheering of af2. Her answer was a pleasant surprise as she explained that it really has to do with the fans. "Cheering for the Seattle Seahawks and the Spokane Shock have been the most enjoyable because the fans in both cities really get in to it. When the fans are that great, it makes our job much easier."
Thank you, Sabrina, and dance team members Lauren, Ashley, Megan, Kayla, Melody, Megan, Cody, Roshni, Mallory, Kolby, Denee, Kolbie, Heather, and Meghan for your devotion to the Spokane Shock and the fans of Spokane.
If you are or know of someone that may be toying with the idea of auditioning for the dance team for the 2007 season, keep a watchful eye on the Spokane Shock website, www.spokaneshock.com. Auditions are tentatively scheduled for January.
Shawn and Lori with their children Kaiden and Moriah live in beautiful Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. Suffering from football withdrawals, the two diehard Seahawk fans found out that a new team was coming to town, the "Spokane Shock". Shawn and Lori are excited to cover the team as new sportswriters and new fans of Arena Football (you just can't beat year round football). GO SHOCK!!!
