Meet the Spokane Shock
Shawn and Lori Mosqueda
Monday March 27, 2006
We interviewed fans to get their take on arena football and the new Spokane Shock team. The consensus of the fans is that they know very little about arena football but are excited about a professional team in their area.
One fan named Scott said, "I am new to arena football and have only seen a few games on NBC when the games are broadcasted. I am excited about having a professional team in the area!"
Rob & Heather Grosse, who have two kids, said, "We are only familiar with arena football from watching a few games on NBC. We are mostly high school and college football fans. This is great for Spokane. It’s a great place to bring our kids and occasional clients during the summer!"
During his speech to the fans, head coach Chris Seigfried summed up the players and staff of Arena Football by saying, "We like to think of ourselves as the blue-collar working class of professional sports."
Several arena football franchises have died after a couple years because of a minimal or dwindling fan base. However, with the excitement of the Spokane and North Idaho fans, I think the Shock will be here for a long time. If the success in season ticket purchases is any indication as to what kind of season the Shock is going to have, I would say Spokane is in for a real treat!
Lori’s Take: I agree with Shawn. Spokane Shock season ticket holders did come out in droves to attend the Meet the Team event. However, I am not sure if the fans were more ecstatic over the fact they finally have a professional football team east of the mountains or if they are still euphoric from the amazing 2005 season of the Seattle Seahawks. Regardless of their motivation to buy, the fans in Spokane have proven their commitment to the Spokane Shock by purchasing the highest number of season tickets in the entire arenafootball2.
In return, the Spokane Shock showed their gratitude to the fans by hosting the event, held exclusively for season ticket holders.
Head coach Chris Siegfried concluded the event with his team out on the field, showing the fans the basics of Arena Football. Fans of all ages were caught up in the excitement of the evening, especially after hearing that the players will stay on the field after each home game to be available to meet the fans and sign autographs.
Players and fans alike are more than ready for the season opener against the Stockton Lightning on Thursday, March 30th, 2006. Go Shock!
Shawn and Lori with their children Kaiden and Moriah live in beautiful Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. Suffering from football withdrawals, the two diehard Seahawk fans found out that a new team was coming to town, the "Spokane Shock". Shawn and Lori are excited to cover the team as new sportswriters and new fans of Arena Football (you just can't beat year round football). GO SHOCK!!!
