Rush reacquire Linebacker Morris
Wednesday March 13, 2013
The Rush have reacquired linebacker Kelvin Morris, the team announced today.
Morris, who had been busy etching his name in the Rush record books for the past two years, was picked up by Orlando in November. With the beginning of the season just days away, it looked like he was going to be suiting up in the black and red for the 2013 campaign. However, after intensive talks between the Rush and the Predators, Morris is on his way back to Chicago to build upon his already-stellar resume.
2012 was a monumental year for the Clemson product. In addition to the 39.5 tackles he racked up coming out of the mac linebacker position, Morris picked off five passes, returning all but one of those for a touchdown. He also established a name for himself on offense, rushing the ball ten times for six touchdowns. In addition, he caught a touchdown late in the season finale against the Cleveland Gladiators. Overall, in his two seasons with the Rush, Morris has accumulated 14 interceptions and over 100 tackles.
In return, the Predators will pick up linebacker Marcus Everett and offensive lineman Greg Niland.
When asked about the move, Head Coach Bob McMillen seemed thrilled. “This is a great acquisition for both the team and the fans. Kelvin’s been one of the top guys in the entire league for a few seasons now and we’re glad to have him back in Chicago," said McMillen. “It hurts losing two veterans in Everett and Niland, especially considering the outstanding camps that they’ve had. Despite all that, we’re confident that this trade puts us in a better position.”
Morris and the rest of the Rush will return to the gridiron on March 23rd against the Iowa Barnstormers.
